This week I thought I’d keep it simple and share how I make cold brew. It’s so easy and simple and doesn’t require an unnecessarily expensive machine.
Here’s what you’ll need:
+ Ground Coffee
I use Cafe du Monde Coffee and Chicory because it’s smooth and tastes delicious. I got a 2 pack of these cans on Amazon.
+ Large Pitcher or Jug
The one I have is 2 L/2.1 quarts.
+ Ultra Fine Mesh Bag
I got this one from Amazon in a 2 pack. They are easy to clean and re-use and have a drawstring closure.
+ Fill the mesh bag about halfway with the ground coffee. You can add more if you like your coffee stronger.
+ Fill the jug with cold water about 3 inches from the top.
+ Tie up the drawstring closure on the bag and drop it in. I normally get a wooden spoon and poke the air out of the bag so it will sink in a little bit, but it’s going to float and that’s normal.
+ Leave it in your fridge overnight or for about 12 hours.
+ After about 12 hours, I take out the bag so the coffee doesn’t get too strong. I let the grounds dry out in the sink and then dispose of them rather than trying to squeeze out wet grounds from the bag.
+ I normally put about 3/4 cold brew and 1/4 almond milk in a travel mug and I’m good to go! You could serve over ice if you want, but I don’t like doing that because it dilutes the flavor.
+ The jug of cold brew should keep in your fridge for a while. It normally doesn’t last longer than about a week in our fridge!
This is so low maintenance and tastes super smooth. It’s also pretty cost efficient if you think about how much a cup of cold brew costs if you go out and buy it from a coffee shop, or even if you buy the pre-made jug of it from the store.
You’ll notice that this doesn’t have any sugar in it either. I normally take my coffee black so it’s not something I miss anyways. Store bought cold brew typically has a ton of added sugar, so this has been a great way to cut that out. If you normally take sugar in your coffee, try this without it first before deciding you need it. Cold brew typically tastes less bitter than iced coffee, so a lot of people opt for no sweetener. If you want to add it in, warm it up in some milk first and then stir it in so it actually dissolves.
I don’t know about you, but I lean on caffeine during the workday a lot. This cold brew takes me less than a minute to put together in the mornings to take to work!
Let me know what you think of the cold brew if you make it yourself! And of course, follow me on Instagram to stay updated on the next time I post.
