This winter in particular has been brutal so far! I find myself fighting dry skin and chapped lips multiple times a day. I’m one of those people that have lip balm(s) on them at all times – in the car, pockets, work bag, on my desk, nightstand, living room table, you name it.
I thought I’d share some of my favorites and also some lip balms that really didn’t work for me. Let’s get into it.
Anything that is linked is something I’ve actually ordered in the past and is an affiliate link. If you purchase it through the link, it’ll help me out!
01. Glossier’s Balm Dot Com
I know I’ve mentioned this in previous posts but it is seriously that good. It’s the perfect formulation – hydrating, melts into your skin or lips, and actually lasts for hours. The size is also great – it’s large enough to not lose as easily, but small enough to fit in your pocket. After putting this on my lips, I put the excess on my elbows, cuticles, or knuckles. I highly recommend this balm for working in the shop because it is so versatile and long lasting. It comes in flavors like coconut, mint, and birthday cake and tints like rose and cherry. Let me know if you’ve tried any of these – I’m looking to purchase another tube and wondering if I should stay with the original or branch out a bit.
Unrelated tip: if you’re buying something from Glossier, you usually get a free sample of something. Pick the Glossier You perfume sample – trust me, this scent is amazing. I am so excited to purchase the full size bottle of this stuff one day when I can afford it.
I’m really liking this lip balm recently. It’s oddly satisfying to use lip balm from a tin. This came in a pack of two, so I keep one in my jacket pocket and the other on my desk. If you’re looking for a lip balm that’s light weight, doesn’t have a strong scent, and is really hydrating – I’d go with this one.
03. Carmex Classic Lip Balm
Ah, the classic. I’m on a Carmex kick right now. It’s funny because I absolutely hated Carmex for a long period of my life and there’s something about this winter in particular that made me gravitate back to this. This lip balm is sometimes the only one that will actually fix my chapped lips. I use it whenever I get those cracks on the corners of my lips or if my lips need some serious hydration. This is also really nice to use before bed – you really do notice a difference the next day if you do this. This is also a must have for cold sores.
Until recently, I didn’t even know they made a medicated version of Chapstick. If you like the normal Chapstick tubes, I recommend trying the medicated version. It’s a cross between Carmex and the original Chapstick. I like having a tube of this in my work bag or coat pocket. It’s not completely heartbreaking if I lose this kind of lip balm, but it’s so nice to have a tube in a couple places at all times. This one in particular doesn’t leave a thick layer of balm on your lips – so it’s nice to use in the shop so you don’t get sawdust stick to your lips (I’ve been there before and it’s not fun).
05. Blistex Deep Renewal with SPF 15
This one is a game changer. I keep a tube of this in my car at all times. It’s surprisingly moisturizing and soothing. I also really like the tube, it’s reminiscent of a lipstick tube in the way it twists up. Having SPF is definitely a plus, and it doesn’t have a weird smell or flavor. If you’re looking for something that leaves your lips feeling soft and moisturized, I’d go with this one.

01. O’Keefe’s Lip Repair Lip Balm
I really like the O’Keefe’s Working Hands, so I thought this lip balm would also be good, but I was wrong. I will say, it is so soothing at first, but it does leave my lips feeling really dry a couple minutes later. I think I might be allergic to some ingredient in this, because after using it, the outside my lips literally sting. I might be an anomaly here, but I did not like this lip balm at all.
02. Burt’s Bees Pomegranate Lip Balm
I enjoyed this lip balm for about a day and then it became a balm I would use if I couldn’t find anything else. It felt greasy and like it just sat on top of my lips rather than actually hydrated them. The taste was also super waxy and medicinal. Not a fan of this one.
Let me know down below or on Instagram if you’d tried any of these or have any recommendations! I’m always looking for new products to try so let me know what you’re using these days!
