This is pretty broad category, so I’m feeling a part two coming on later.
Sometimes, I work in a paint shop and sometimes I work in my art studio – either way, I find myself gravitating towards a couple beauty must haves that make my life so much easier.
I have some of these things on me while I’m at work, but others I just use either before or after a workday and it makes all the difference.
Some links below are affiliate links, so you can support me to continue this blog!
01. Glossier Balm Dot Com – https://bit.ly/22I1y0C
I always have to have some sort of lip balm on me at all times, summer or winter. This stuff is incredible – the formula really just melts on and doesn’t feel overly oily or greasy. Plus, it’s large enough to not lose super easily, but small enough to put in your pockets. I personally like things unscented and not flavored, so this option in a lip balm has been so great.
02. Garnier Micellar Water – https://amzn.to/2SjA7hM
This is the first thing I use when I get home from a long day at the shop. I put a little on a cotton round and it just gets the top layer of gunk off your skin. This is so nice for days where I’m sanding joint compound, using a sprayer, rolling some paint on a vertical surface, you know the deal. Pro tip: use this on a cotton round or q-tip to get the paint off from under and around your nails!
03. Lush Sandstone Soap – https://bit.ly/2Hsla7W
This one is a new purchase for me, but I really like it so far! First off, no plastic packaging and it’s super convenient to use in the shower. The scent of this soap alone is worth the purchase. There’s sand in this, which is really good for gentle exfoliation and getting off all the paint and grease from your body after a long day.
04. Mean Green Hand Scrub – https://amzn.to/2WxO0s8
But – this stuff is the real deal. Sometimes, the Sandstone Soap just isn’t enough (you know, for after those overnight calls where you accidentally get spray paint on your hands because you forgot to wear gloves…). This stuff gets off grease, paint, ink – whatever you’ve got. Pro tip: use this kind of like Gojo or Fast Orange – massage into your skin and then rinse off. Oh, and it’s better than Gojo or Fast Orange. Yeah, I didn’t think that could happen either.
05. Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Moisturizer – https://amzn.to/2GfSTjJ
I have to have this on at all times. This is the only moisturizer I have ever tried that actually feels like it’s soaking into your skin rather than just sitting on top. It’s not greasy feeling and actually works kind of like a primer. I think it’s important to wear moisturizer before a day in a scene shop to protect your face from all that particulate. It’s really about enhancing your skin’s barrier. The one downside to this is that it doesn’t have SPF. So, pair it with some sunscreen and you’re good to go.
06. Arm & Hammer Essentials Deodorant – https://amzn.to/2sURS90
It might sound stupid to be recommending a deodorant of all things, but this stuff is incredible and super affordable. I’ll admit, it does look really cheap and dated, but trust me – this keeps the smell and sweat away. I’m not a super sweaty person, but when I’m lifting 5 gallon buckets of paint and starching drops all day – yeah – I’m there. I got a pack of 2 and keep one in my work bag at all times. You never know.
07. O’Keefe’s Working Hands Hand Cream – https://amzn.to/2ToQ7wp
I’m sure everyone’s heard of this by now, but this stuff is the real deal. They also make a cream version in a tube (what?!) but I haven’t tried that yet. This stuff is super economical because a little really does go a long way. I like using this at night but pro tip: if you put a little on before work, paint doesn’t stick to you as badly and actually washes off a bit easier! Oh also, this is a must have for putting on my elbows and knuckles, especially in the winter months.
Okay. That’s all for now! Stay tuned for a favorite products part two – with makeup and more skincare! Let me know if you’ve tried any of these and if they worked for you. Thanks for reading!
